Harm Borrie

Corporate Finance, Rotterdam

"Looking with a keen eye to the future with a focus on financial prospects and opportunities"
I am a native of Rotterdam who studied Business Economics in Maastricht. As point of contact for the Alliott Group Alliance, the international alliance of which Borrie is a member, I spend a lot of time on assignments from clients who also operate abroad. Since 2003, I have attended many conferences, which has allowed me to build valuable international contacts for Borrie.
I spend my free time on the water, in the snow or in the kitchen. When I am at work, I think exclusively of my clients. They should really feel like they are king, which is why I take into account economic trends, investment opportunities and risk management, always focused on ensuring long-term financial stability and growth.
A proactive attitude towards clients is indispensable because you are constantly thinking in terms of solutions. Tackling issues and themes on this basis, together with my colleagues and clients, fascinates me enormously. It is even more fun when it comes to international projects and clients. A good education and the necessary experience are of course the basis for good advice. However, with the right attitude towards your clients, that advice only gets the added value that we at Borrie are all about.

Maarten Borrie

Tax advice, Rotterdam

"A good consultant excels in expertise and stays well informed not only of his own field, but also of related disciplines."
I studied tax law in Rotterdam at Erasmus University. After graduating, I started working as a tax consultant in the tax practice of KPMG Meijburg & Co in Rotterdam. My focus was on nationally operating companies. After having worked in the general practice for over seven years, I then focused on international tax issues, particularly transfer pricing aspects for multinational companies. At KPMG Meijburg & Co, I spent more than five years - mostly as part of internationally operating teams - handling various transfer pricing issues of larger multinationals, including setting up transfer pricing systems and coordinating them with the tax authorities.
The lack of a personal connection and the lack of contact with clients running their own businesses were aspects of tax advice at multinationals that I increasingly missed." Ultimately, this led to my transfer to Borrie Belastingadviseurs after a period of more than 12 years at KPMG Meijburg & Co to work as a tax specialist in the SME practice.
Borrie's good mix of small, larger, national and international clients provides me with a daily challenging and changing tax work environment. The strength of a good advisor is that he not only keeps abreast of the latest developments in his own area of expertise, but also keeps abreast of developments in adjacent disciplines. The great thing about Borrie is that accountants and tax advisers work directly together on a daily basis and are therefore able to advise clients in the best possible way. In doing so, it is always my ambition to translate our knowledge and expertise into clients' demands in a clear manner. That way, relationships can be created that continue to create value.

Hans Kraak

Accountancy, Rotterdam

"You have to be able and dare to tell each other everything in this work."
I have worked at Borrie since 1988. I became a partner in 2001 and joined the executive board in 2004. Besides my board position, I work as an all-rounder, mainly in the SME practice.
I am a direct interlocutor. You have to be able and dare to say anything to each other in this work. It is about the facts, not the fancy words you wrap them in. That is why it is so important that you can trust each other. Because only then do you dare tell someone the truth and the other person is open to listening to it. To achieve that, I think you should always be there for your client. And that 'always' can be taken literally, as far as I am concerned. I want to be a sounding board for my clients. Complicated issues should be clear once you have talked about them together. That way, the entrepreneur is able to make the right decision for him. Both in his business and private concerns.

"Doing business together with the customer."
As a partner at Borrie, my focus has included the non-profit sector, where my clients include museums and various welfare and reintegration foundations. I am closely involved in the ins and outs of my clients. Of course, I have to be available to my client, but that is not enough. I want to be close to him, both professionally and privately. There is a big difference between advising someone on call and doing business together with the client. In the latter case, you build a relationship of trust that significantly improves your commitment and therefore the quality of the service you provide. Clients need to realise that I am there for them as a business confidant and a knowledgeable advisor. They need to grow that awareness to reap the benefits.

Maurice Kruidenier

Tax advice, Rotterdam

"We seek the boundaries, but we do not cross them."
I studied Dutch and Tax Law at Erasmus University. In 2001, I was asked to set up Borrie's tax department. I am also active in the Alliott Group, having been a board member of the World Wide Tax Committee for several years.
Every taxpayer has opportunities as well as obligations. I deal with both. Anyone doing international business has to deal with foreign buyers, suppliers, possibly subsidiaries or other interests across borders. This not only creates tax complications, it also creates opportunities. Personally, I like talking to a client about more than just taxes. It helps to get to know someone better, which in turn helps to give him or her the right advice. That advice should, if possible, ensure that we pay for ourselves. We go a long way in doing that. Let us say we push the limits without going over them.

Pieterjan Kazen

Accountancy, Rotterdam

"Professionalism and quality for a valuable contribution to customer success."
I am Pieterjan Kazen, and I have been working as a partner and external auditor at Borrie since 2008. My career started with gaining work experience in the large national and international audit practice of Ernst & Young Accountants. At Borrie, I am jointly responsible for the audit department, where I am proud to contribute.
The dynamic aspect of my work energises me. My goal is to help and support entrepreneurs with the challenges they face. I value professionalism and quality, and strive to grow to a higher level together with clients and employees.
My client portfolio is diverse, ranging from small to large, national and international clients in different sectors. This diversity makes my work challenging and keeps me on my toes. No client is the same, which requires flexibility and dedication on my part.
It is inspiring to be able to contribute to our clients' growth with our audit department. Together, we strive for results and keep working hard to achieve them. At Borrie, we believe in continuous learning and continuing to challenge each other, which creates a stimulating and inspiring working environment in which we grow and prosper together.

Edwin van Remortel

Accountancy, Rotterdam

"Being a reliable and open point of contact for both customers and colleagues."
As a dedicated and experienced accountant, my passion lies in supporting clients with day-to-day issues in various areas of accountancy. I strive to be a reliable and open point of contact for both clients and colleagues, aiming to provide high-quality service that meets their needs.
I have been working at Borrie since 2005, almost immediately after completing my studies. My education started at Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences, where I laid a good foundation for my career in accountancy. I then continued my studies at Erasmus University Rotterdam, where I graduated as an accountant. These courses not only provided me with the necessary theoretical knowledge, but also strengthened my analytical skills and problem-solving abilities, allowing me to respond effectively to my clients' needs.
Besides my professional dedication, I enjoy playing pool in my spare time, which gives me a chance to relax after a long working day. I am also a proud parent and love watching my children's sporting achievements, which gives me great joy and satisfaction.
With my extensive experience, academic background and strong commitment to my clients and colleagues, I am determined to continue my role at our firm and contribute to the success and growth of our team and clients.

Maarten Jan Verhoeve

Accountancy, Rotterdam

‘Dynamic and creative, but above all focused and sharp.’
I graduated in business economics and accountancy from Erasmus University. I have worked in accountancy for the past twenty years, the last eighteen of which at Borrie. I am currently active in both the auditing and the compilation practice and have gained a broad knowledge in various sectors through my experience.
I am a no-nonsense thinker and doer. Clarity and incisiveness are my priorities, but as the result of a creative and dynamic analysis. Knowing the client, his wishes and needs is essential for a lasting relationship. Our profession is not about prescribing rules to clients; the client's business and situation determine the direction for finding solutions. I see myself as a partner in business. It is precisely this involvement that enables us to act in a targeted way. Building long-term relationships with customers is our ultimate goal.

Partners Amsterdam

Diana Clement

Accountancy, Amsterdam

‘Adding value and providing direction.’
I have been working in accountancy for over twenty-five years. In 2000, I started my own office in Amsterdam, which was integrated into Borrie's capital office in 2008.
For me, accountancy is the most beautiful profession there is. What drives me is the passion for entrepreneurship and the conviction that things can always be done better. Clients only really benefit from you if you know what is going on in the world, both in the real world and theirs. That way I can really assist them, with advice and action.
Besides my role as a partner, I am also a member of Borrie's executive board. I find it important to add value to the organisation by giving direction for the future. For the same reason, I have been a member of the board of the SRA, an organisation for independent accountancy firms, since December 2011. Here, among other things, I am involved in the SRA seal of approval, a way of drawing SME entrepreneurs' attention to the quality of member firms.
Connecting both worlds and creating value for customers is a great combination.

Fokko van Dijk

Accountancy, Amsterdam

‘Not just the numbers, but also the story around them.’
I am an aerospace engineer by origin and also studied business administration at Nyenrode. In addition, I trained as a chartered accountant. Until 2006, I worked as an accountant and consultant at an international accounting firm. I then worked as a financial director at a global chemical company. I have been a partner at Borrie since 2010.
My passion is to use my technical and business background, together with my experience in business, in my work for clients. As a result, clients can experience me as an adviser who not only looks at the figures, but also understands the story surrounding the figures. In the client relationship, I attach great importance to trust and integrity. The client must be able to trust me blindly and rely on me. The complexity of doing business is increasing and entrepreneurs want to be unburdened, a role I gladly assume.

Marco Schreurs

Accountancy, Amsterdam

‘Tackling that jungle of rules together with your client.’
Working in accountancy since 1991. I have experience in the compilation and auditing practice and am at home in business economics, financing applications and assessing business plans.
For me, it is not so much about the numbers as the translation that goes with them. Without a comprehensible explanation, those numbers are of no use to the customer. You must therefore try to communicate as clearly as possible and that starts with listening carefully to the customer's questions and wishes. Furthermore, you must not only show commitment, but also feel it. Service is paramount in all cases. I want to offer a helping hand in that forest of reporting and tax rules. It is a challenge to assist the client in the development of his or her business. My added value must lie in limiting risks for the company and supporting opportunities that the entrepreneur sees. I want to be an enquirer and where possible make money for the client.

Frits de Rooij

Accountancy, Amsterdam

‘The power of collaboration is the key to success.’
I am a passionate chartered accountant who likes the challenge of special assignments, which are technically complex and organisationally demanding. My focus is mainly on international clients, with whom I have worked extensively in recent years. Working for the same international client for over a year enables me to apply my professional knowledge in every area, which keeps me sharp and inspires me. Of course, travelling to branches of foreign (component) accountants also makes my profession fun.
I have now enjoyed working at the Amstelveen office for 4.5 years. My career started at a division of Deloitte in Leiden, where I also worked for 4.5 years. I then further developed my expertise for 5 years at BDO in both Leiden and The Hague, followed by another 5 years at Crowe in Amsterdam. My work mainly focuses on the audit practice, where I serve both national and international SME entrepreneurs.
What attracts me to my work is the diversity and variety that the profession offers. I love the challenges of auditing and advising companies, and I strongly believe in the power of cooperation within a team, which is the key to success.
Outside my professional life, I am an avid sports enthusiast. Sailing, hockey, tennis and skiing are four activities I actively pursue. These activities not only provide relaxation, but also contribute to my team spirit and perseverance, qualities that I also value in my professional life.
As an adventurer, I enjoy travelling to new places and experiencing different cultures. My curiosity and urge for adventure translate not only into my work, but also into my leisure time. I am convinced that discovering new horizons contributes to personal growth and a broader outlook on life.
